Adding Style Lines to your Dress Form

After making your custom dress form, it's time to add style lines to it. These will be helpful when designing or fitting clothes, or placing seams. I recommend using a piece of string or ribbon to place these lines appropriately on your mannequin, so you can get them placed right, and either pin or tape them to your mannequin. Then, if you've made a duct tape dress form you can make these lines permanent by drawing them on with a permanent marker, then remove your string.

Here they are:

This line is placed horizontally, all the way around the mannequin, at the waist.

This line is placed horizontally across the front of the mannequin, at the fullest point of the bust.

arrow_purplebrown TEXTPrincess Seam Line
This line is placed starting at the half-way point across the shoulder, down through the apex (bust point/ center of bust), straight down the rest of the mannequin. (Place this line on both the left and right side, on the front and the back.)

Instead of continuing the Bust Level Line around the back, place this line horizontally across the back, placing it about 4.25 inches lower than the base of the neck.

This is a vertical line, marking the center of the back.

arrow_purplebrown TEXTCenter Front Line
This is a vertical line, marking the center of the front.
